Message: Dear Sir Zack,

I loved your website about Bagdad Cafe. Thank you very much for it.
I just want to tell you something that's a mistake. The caption of the photo down there that says U.S. soldiers are "fighting for freedom in Iraq" is not true. U.S. soldiers are fighting to control oil for oil companies sake, just it.

Best wishes, (withheld by Zack)

   First, I want to state that the photo was sent to the Bagdad Café depicting soldiers who are fans of the Bagdad Café. One of them got a Bagdad Café shirt and several of them signed it and sent the photo of them holding it for inclusion in the Photo Album. The photo had no caption.

   The caption was added by Zack (a Viet Nam Combat Vet 1966 & 1967) to denote appreciation for their sacrifice in serving our country.

In reply to this part;

   “The caption of the photo down there that says U.S. soldiers are "fighting for freedom in Iraq" is not true. U.S. soldiers are fighting to control oil for oil companies sake, just it.”

   If it is true our troops are in Iraq for the interest of Oil Companies, then the caption still applies. They are fighting to preserve your freedom to consume as much oil as you can.

   Mostly though, they fight for the freedom of self determination. Our nation owes them our deepest appreciation for their service. Remember, it is not the military that decides where to fight and for what. They go where the people of the US send them by virtue of our elected officials.

   Show your appreciation. When you are at a restaurant and see soldiers eating, pick up their tab. Yes, buy them a meal and say ‘thanks for your service in protecting my freedom‘.

Also this final thought:

   Just about everything in our society is made out of or with oil. Not just gas and electricity but plastic (most of your car is plastic now), paint, tires, tarps, fertelizer and on and on. You can replace a few of the uses with wind, solar, hydroelectric and steam from geysers. None of them will produce plastic. When I was little nothing was made from plastic. Nope, it didn’t exist. Not publicly anyway.

   The exception to the remark about producing plastic is, Biodiesel from Algea CAN be used to produce plastic and all the other things wind, solar and water can not be used to make.
